When A Blind Man Cries

If youre leaving close the door.
Im not expecting people anymore.
Hear me grieving, Im lying on the floor.
Whether Im drunk or dead I really aint too sure.
Im a blind man, Im a blind man and my world is pale.
When a blind man cries, lord, you know there aint no sadder tale.

Had a friend once in a room,
Had a good time but it ended much too soon.
In a cold month in that room
We found a reason for the things we had to do.

Im a blind man, Im a blind man, now my room is cold.

When A Blind Man Cries'

“When a Blind Man Cries” was supposed to be on Deep Purple’s Machine Head. Why do you keep revisiting that song? You seem to have a great love affair with this song.

Ian: I do. We don’t do many slow blues. First of all, it is one of those songs that fits well into the context of a live performance. The song has texture and dynamics. The other thing is the lyrics to the song; it is a lesson in life. Everywhere you go people are whining and complaining while people with disabilities never seem to complain near as much as those who have all of their faculties or wits. I think it is a lesson in life to stop whining. It was not on Machine Head because Ritchie [Blackmore] didn’t like it.
